If your ISP Blocks a certain port which you want to use
without the need of hopelessly arguing with the Technical support people.
There is a
way around that..
It implements using a shell account and SSH
Full Instructions on using Shells and
SSH can be found here
here is a practical example:
Lets say your ISP Blocks port ranges 6660-6669 and 7000-7009 and you want to
connect to Undernet IRC Servers on port 6667!
Assuming that you have an account at nether.net
you can do by logging in to your shell account, and typing (
At the command prompt: )
ssh -R 12000:eu.undernet.org:6667 nether.net
you will be asked for your
nether.net password.
Now you are done from the shell's side..
Go back to your IRC Client, and configure it to use nether.net as the server on
port 12000.
That's all :)
